What is a
Sitemap?
A Sitemap is
an easy way for webmasters to inform search engines about
the pages on their Web sites that are
available for crawling. In the simplest form, a
Sitemap is an XML file that lists URLs for a site along with additional
metadata about each URL, such
as when it was last updated, how often it
usually changes, and how important it is in
relative to other URLs in the site.
This information, when available, enables the
search engines to more intelligently crawl the
site.
Web crawlers usually
discover pages from links within the site and from other sites. Sitemaps
supplement this data to allow crawlers that support Sitemaps to pick up all
URLs in the Sitemap and learn about those URLs using the associated
metadata. Having a Sitemap
available does not guarantee that web pages will
be included in search engines, but it certainly
provides hints for web crawlers to do a better job of crawling your site.

Do I need a
SiteMap?
Some would say yes, others no.
Personally here at YourDomainUK we say yes. SiteMaps are really easy to
create and will assist in giving your site the full airing that it needs.
How Easy?
Very easy. Although there are many sites offering free
Site Map creators, through personal preference and experience we recommend
SiteMapsPal.
Before you say "Here we go. Here's the affiliate link" Let me correct you.
We are not associated in any way with SiteMapsPal other than we use their
services for FREE. You can too. This recommendation is our way of saying
thanks to them, for being there.
